All about us

THIS PAGE IS DESIGNED TO TELL YOU ALL YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE SQUADRON

FROM ITS HISTORY TO THE PRESENT DAY SQUADRON

AS WELL AS THE STAFF THAT MAKE IT LEE'S TROPHY REPRESENTATIVE FOR HAMPSHIRE AND ISLE OF WIGHT WING FOR 2005

So Lets tell you something about our History ...

Thanks to the generosity of Officer Commanding Fort Blockhouse and his staff, the squadron moved into Fisher Block in 2000 from Vian Close in Gosport.

The move to Fort Blockhouse meant two things. A more secure site for our squadron and cadets and access to a whole host of facilities now used not just by the Squadron but the Wing for events such as Browndown, Summer Camp and Training Weekends.

The squadron has evolved and developed since we moved, cadets and staff have joined and departed and the squadron is now holding strong at approximately 40 cadets.

For more information about some of the recent activities held at the squadron and attended by the squadron please look at the Activities tab below.

Now then, lets look at the staff ...

Flight Lieutenant Paul Mitchell RAF VR(T) - The Boss

Flight Lieutenant Peter Turner RAF VR (T) - The Weapons Systems Officer

Flying Officer Adam Barnett RAF VR (T) - The Adj

Adult Warrant Officer Martin Cooper ATC - The SWO

Adult Sergeant Hazel Thompson ATC - The Operations Officer

The Civilian Instructors

Our squadrons would not be the same with out the valuable support from Civilian Instructors. Some are ex-cadets waiting to go into uniform, some are ex-service or even ex ATC service personnel and some are just members of the public that give their time and commitment to the cadets. They are:

Christopher (Kit) Barratt - Adj's little helper!

Bernie and Ivor Salter (Not related) - Bernie looks after our radios and Ivor runs our flight simulator program.

Simon Dabbs - Comms support

Jason Devlin - Leading Cadet training officer

Service Helpers

Service Helpers are just what they seem. Serving members of the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and The Army. We currently have 4 service helpers on the squadron who teach and assist in a range of activities from Cadet Training to Medical Support. They are also a source of information for cadets wishing to join one of the forces when they leave school.

And finally, the cadets ...

NCO's

NCO's (Non-Commissioned Officers) help the staff with the smooth running of the squadron often taking on various jobs like; the running of the canteen or stores, running the duty desk or helping to organise days out or greens weekends.

Cadets

Cadets can join at the age of 13 years and work through a structured syllabus of lessons and other training to get 'classification' badges. Those who show leadership skills can go on to become NCO's. Cadets who are over the age of 18 years are called 'Instructor Cadets' and have some different duties and tasks.

SO IF YOU THINK YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US, EITHER AS A CADET OR A MEMBER OF STAFF PLEASE GET IN CONTACT EITHER BY EMAIL OR TELEPHONE. WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.
